With my practice, I am interested in exploring the temporal nature of life in a cosmopolitan city like London. Having been born and brought up in south east London, I feel very inspired by my environment. The marks and gestures we knowingly and unknowingly leave behind. The layers of life that show the breath of time. Paint, advertising, moss. The permanence and impermanence. A constant cycle of construction and destruction, damage and repair. As is the cycle of nature.

I work with low-cost, industrial materials which reflect the materials that shape London’s transient city landscape, altering the context they usually exist in, with an element of play. Drawing inspiration from the architectural and urbanity, I want to situate objects and images in a context that feels subversive and disorientating. I work with found or repurposed objects, particularly those that are associated with or that I have found in the city to reclaim their function. The object no longer functioning for the purpose of construction, building or as a communicative symbol, but for the means of art.

In my work exist undertones of humour and whimsical cartoon which have become an almost logical and inherent succession within my practise after changing the innate nature of said material. Objects or images are exaggerated and pushed to breaking point, with the gesture often being the focal point of the piece. Gestures are very present in my work and the idea of a trace or human presence is a recurring theme.

Mass production and the climate crisis have a big presence in 21st century life and are more topics or keywords in this language I am trying to form. I am interested in urbanity, industrialism, the overriding power of nature and where these things meet and cross over.
